Howth Taverners Home

15th July 2011 Match Report

Weather:
Played at Castle Park on a lovely summer day. Rained earlier in day but cleared becoming slighly chillier after the sun had set

Visiting Team Overview:
Howth Taverners had a few members from Knockharley Leinster League, as well as some Dublin locals and had only 9 men available to play - so Sean whose Dad plays tennis with Bruce Hill, Joe Fallon and Dave Lee kindly made up as a 10th man for them.

Match Review:
Bowling and Fielding
The Archivers agreed to  field first with  Joe Fallon and Morgan Dockrell opening with very tidy spells. Howth batted cautiously for first 11 overs posting only 40 runs but reached 101 all out after their alloted 18 overs. Some middle order cavalier Howth batting brought their run rate up from under 4 at the half way mark to almost 6 by the end of their innings. Howth's Captain Ian was allowed to bat twice due to the shortage in their numbers.

Batting
Dalkey reached the target of 104 for 5 after only 15 overs with some fine master class, hard hitting, batting by both Humphrey Cuzner and  Stewart Reay who opened; followed by Owen Jacob,  Johnny Miller and Geoff Nurse who all pitched in with quick 20's.

Special Mention
Morgan Dockrell did not bat and came off the field feeling ill after his as ever most accurate off spin bowling spell. After some time resting in the cold breeze on the bench at Castle Park, Bruce Hill very wisely discerned out of concern, that he should be taken home to a warmer place, which Pierce Butler kindly facilitated by taking him home. We wish Morgan a speedy recovery.  Howth Taverners presented a special commemorative mug to Dalkey for arranging the match.
